SHEFFIELD have booked exciting youngsters James Shanes and Georgie Wood as guest reserves for their SGB Championship trip to Peterborough tonight (7.30).

The pair replace Rob Branford and Nathan Stoneman who are both injured.

Poole racer Shanes has already demonstrated his liking for the East of England Arena circuit this season when he claimed victory in the British Under-21 Semi-Final there in April.

Meanwhile Wood impressed Tigers bosses when he raced against them for Berwick at Owlerton on Thursday scoring 4+3 in a rare second flight appearance.

Sheffield promoter Damien Bates insists there's no pressure on the two reserves though and has called on his top five to bring their 'A game' to the clash as they look to add to their tally.

"We know we won there a few weeks ago but we know this is going to be another tough meeting," Bates said.

"They've got some good riders and of course they'll want to get one over us.

"We're happy with the two lads we've got in at reserve. It's their sort of track because it's big and fast and both of them have done well in grasstrack meetings too so they should enjoy it.

"But there's absolutely no pressure on them whatsoever.

"We need our top five to be at their very best for this one and if they are then there's no reason why we can't come away with at least one league point - but it won't be easy we know that much."

The Panthers bring in experienced campaigner Kevin Doolan in place of Bradley Wilson-Dean who's riding for Swindon in the SGB Premiership while Liam Carr will lines-up at reserve for the final time for the hosts.

PETERBOROUGH: Jack Holder, Kevin Doolan, Paul Starke, Ulrich Ostergaard, Chris Harris, Liam Carr, Tom Bacon.
SHEFFIELD: Josh Grajczonek, Todd Kurtz, Lasse Bjerre, Josh Bates, Kyle Howarth, James Shanes, Georgie Wood.

ROB Branford’s season is over after suffering a shoulder injury.

Branford, who has enjoyed some good performances with Sheffield, has told the club he can’t ride again because of the injury which needs too much time to recover.

The news means Tigers are looking for two new signings to plug the gaps at reserve after Nathan Stoneman was badly hurt in mid-week.

“It’s obviously a big blow to us,” said co-promoter Damien Bates. “But this is now top of our priority list and we are working hard to find replacements.

“It’s not ideal but we have to keep our play-off push on track and hopefully we will have two new signings in place before too long.

“In the meantime we wish both Rob and Nathan well for their recovery from their injuries.”
