DOUBLE-HEADER PREVIEW

Wednesday September 13, 2017
SHEFFIELD could secure their place at the top of the Championship in their home double-header against Edinburgh and Ipswich on Thursday (7pm).

Two more wins at Owlerton would not only extend the Window Centre Tigers’ unbeaten home record, but it would also guarantee that they could not be overtaken by their rivals – if Glasgow were to slip-up at home to Ipswich on Wednesday.

That would be another big boost with the play-offs fast approaching and co-promoter Damien Bates is keen to see his side achieve that goal.

“Finishing top of the table is all-important I guess because it gives us first pick of opponents in the semi-finals,” Bates said.

“That would allow us to sit and down as a team and discuss our options but we’ve still got a few meetings to go before that.

“Our superb run of wins sadly did come to an end at Redcar last week, but this is a great chance for us to get back to winning ways.

“If we could add six more points to the table with two wins then that would be great – but it won’t be easy.
“Ipswich and Edinburgh are two really good teams and they both have title ambitions of their own this season.

“They’ve both got very good riders and I think we’re in for two cracking meetings on Thursday and hopefully the fans will turn out in big numbers to cheer Sheffield on.”

The Tigers are still without Todd Kurtz and Josh Bates through injury – but club bosses insist both are ‘very close’ to being race fit again. Scunthorpe man Lewis Kerr will deputise for Bates on Thursday though with rider replacement operating for Kurtz at No.2.

Edinburgh are led by current Australian Champion Sam Masters while former British Champion Danny King captains Ipswich.

The 30 races get underway with Tigers v Edinburgh at 7pm, with the Ipswich fixture to follow.

Admission prices are £20 all Adults, £10 Juniors (12-17) and just £2 Children (4-11).
