NEWLY crowned Sheffield Supporters’ Rider of the Year Kyle Howarth says the accolade is a perfect end to a “special” season.

Howarth was presented with the award after Monday’s win over Redcar, whilst Jan Graversen was named the Promoters’ Rider of the Year.

Despite receiving stern competition from all members of the side, Howarth’s success was well-deserved after a stunning season.

He led the Window Centre Tigers to their first league title in 15 years as club captain and also partnered Lasse Bjerre to the Championship Pairs crown.

Howarth said: “It’s an honour to win Rider of the Year, and what a year it’s been for Sheffield.

“We’ve had so many good riders. Josh Grajczonek has been awesome at No.1, Lasse Bjerre and Josh Bates have both done well and right down to reserve, everyone has done their job.

“To get voted for the award by the fans means a lot, they’ve been great to us all season and we really appreciate their support.

“After the year we’ve had, this is just the icing on the cake and it feels great. We’ve all worked hard, and I think we’ve deserved the success.

“It’s been 15 years since Sheffield won the league, so to be captain of the side who have done it, and to do it with Steady and all these boys has been awesome.”
